Are you not quite yourself? Feeling a little sad or just have a foggy brain?
Some great herbs for seasonal support are know as adaptogen herbs. Using these herbs are a wonderful way to support transitioning into the fall season. Some of the problems you may have noticed could be: getting enough sleep – sad about letting go of the warmer weather – feelings of anxiety about the holidays around the corner. – family, friends, gatherings, and gifts. These are just some of the things that are going through our minds as we shift from the fun in the sun to the fall festivities!
Did you know that our dogs can sense this shift in us maybe even before we do. They know when we are feeling anxious or just out of sorts and therefore they may be feeling this way too. When we shift into different seasons and change our routines this is a time we need to support our dogs wellbeing too.
There are so many herbs that are helpful with this transitioning time. Several of them are also safe to give to our dogs, especially with the holidays coming up. I’ll be sure to share more about that soon.

Fall pumpkins at one of our new favorite walking areas – Bourne Farm
This year is so different as I begin the shift into the fall. Typically I am out running errands at places I have been shopping at for over 30 years. I would normally be hanging out with my long time friends enjoying the cooler crisp air and going to local fairs near where we grew up. Taking my dog Ivy to all our favorite local outdoor walking spots was one of my favorite things to do. But this year is very different! I’ve moved to a new town with my husband, our cat Gibson and my little dog Ivy.

I have been taking a blend of Astragalus, Ashwagahdha, and Chaga mushrooms. This blend is in a powdered form and I’ve been filling tiny gelatin capsules and taking them three times a day.
I’ve noticed a calmer overall feeling. Normally I would mix myself a nice cup of tea with dried forms of these herbs but I decided to try a different way this time. It has been super convenient and getting a good dose is easier in a capsule form. I also know exactly what is in my capsule.
I got my herbs and mushroom from a local herbal shop. If you don’t have a shop nearby you can find some great quality herbs online at Mountain Rose Herbs and Banyan Botanicals. I order from them on occasion and I trust them.
Now this blend seems to work nicely for me but there may be different herbs that will work for you. This is what each of my choice herbs are known to do:
Astragalus supports the immune system and helps regulate the adrenal glands response to a stressful time.
Ashwagahdha has a calming effect on our nerves but doesn’t make us sleepy. Great to take before bed to quiet the noise in our heads.
Chaga mushrooms are an adaptogen and also supports the immune system when it is under mental, emotional or physical stress.
Disclaimer: Always do your own research on the many different herbs and always talk with your doctor before taking any. I’m not a doctor, I just love to share what I have learned.
This time of year is hard on our pets too. Chaga mushrooms are very safe for them. You can make them a little tea and add it to their food.

Sometimes life changes and even though we are happy or excited about those changes it still takes time to adjust. Help yourself and your dog with support from all natural herbs!
